Thanksgiving Cocktails- Sparkling Apple Cider Sangria

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you are as lucky as I am to be surrounded by family and friends on my favorite holiday of the year. Whether you are doing all the cooking or all the football cheering, it’s nice to have a fun and unique cocktail to bring to your celebrations. I saw a version of Apple Cider Sangria on Pinterest a few weeks ago but decided to change a few ingredients to make it more my style. What I love about this recipe is that it’s appealing to a large audience. Who doesn’t love apple cider? Add some freshly sliced apple and beautiful pomegranate, and now we are really onto something. I chose Jack Daniels (or any whisky) as my choice of alcohol and was really surprised that many of my “whisky-hating friends” really enjoyed the cocktail! But if it’s really not your speed, substitute rum or even a raspberry flavored vodka. Champagne gives the drink a nice fizzy finish and a great start to any holiday morning. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Makes: 15 servings (roughly)
Prep Time: 15 minutes    Total Time: 15 minutes

2 apples, chopped into a small dice
1 pomegranate, seeds only
3 cups apple cider
3/4 cup whisky (or rum, but try it this way!)
12 oz dry champagne

  • Mix the apples, pomegranate, apple cider, and whisky in a large pitcher. This can be done ahead of time and can sit in the refrigerator for a day or two.
  • Add the champagne right before serving to keep the drink fizzy.
  • Serve about 6 oz in each glass with a spoonful of fruit.
